streets for people in

What if… our patch was greener, safer, more walkable, a place where we could spend time with our neighbours. Imagine feeling comfortable letting our kids cycle to school. Imagine being able to hear the sounds of the birds in the trees and breathe clean air.

Our PATCH could be a place where everyone could walk, wheel and cycle safely.

Join us as we work towards our vision for our patch of London.

Healthier Streets – evidence

Once healthier streets projects are implemented, they often become hugely popular, even with residents who own cars. There have been many studies in London, across the UK and Europe, and here’s what they’ve found about healthy streets neighbourhoods:

  • lower amounts of traffic
  • lower air pollution locally (a significant cause of mortality, morbidity and resulting health inequality)
  • lower risk of injury, in particular for the very young and elderly
  • increased the freedom and safety of movement for the young, the elderly and for cyclists
  • better health through increased mobility, exercise and reduced social isolation and the sense of community
  • no increase, on average, in traffic on boundary roads (in some cases, there’s less traffic on boundary roads)
